Brazilian Portuguese for foreigners

From 'oi' to feeling at home in Brazil.

Real Portuguese for real life here. Small live classes with a Brazilian teacher who has been the confused foreigner in the room. You will not just pass a test. You will order at the padaria, laugh at the family lunch, and finally feel at home.

No textbook robot voice. Real Portuguese, real people.

You moved to Brazil

You are building a life here, and daily life should not feel like a boss fight. Handle the bank, the market, the doctor and the small talk, on your own.

Your person is Brazilian

Their whole world speaks Portuguese. Stop smiling and nodding at the family table. Start belonging to it, jokes and all.

Brazil pulled you in

The music, the food, the people got you. You want the real spoken Portuguese people actually use, not the one from page 42 of a textbook.

The method

The TWS method: you learn by doing.

Task based classes in real Brazilian scenarios. You walk out of every single class able to do something new in Portuguese.

1

You learn by doing

Every class is built around a real task: arriving, ordering, asking, meeting people. Grammar serves the mission, never the other way around.

2

Real Brazil, not a textbook

Slang, shortcuts, the way people actually talk and text. The Portuguese you will really hear on the street and in the group chat.

3

Clear "I can" promises

Each module ends with a real can-do. By the end of the course: I can survive and connect in Brazil, on my own.

4

Checkpoints keep it honest

Short check ins show you what actually stuck, so your progress is something you can feel, not just hope for.

Where you start

Pick your starting point.

Beginners get real structure. Everyone gets a teacher who tailors the ride to your life and your goals.

Your teacher

Hi, I'm Izzy.

I'm from Recife, home of the best Carnaval in the world and a healthy respect for sharks. I finished a marketing degree in 2012, traded the corporate suits for a backpack, and never really unpacked.

South America down to Ushuaia. Two years in Buenos Aires on a diet of Malbec and alfajores. Then two years photographing cruise ships across the Mediterranean and the Caribbean, through the Panama Canal. A beer in Munich turned into accidentally living in Berlin for three years. Now I'm back in Brazil, far too social for an office cubicle.

I learned Spanish, English and German as an adult, so I know exactly how it feels to be the one smiling and nodding without a clue. That is the whole reason this school exists.

★★★★★

Izabel is absolutely the best tutor I have worked with. I have worked with 3 other teachers in the past to learn Portuguese or Spanish, and Izabel is, BY FAR, the best. When I first started, she was very interested in my specific goals, and she walked me through different learning paths. Each class is individually tailored to me. She also provides a lot of 'real world' scenarios, including slang that a local might actually use. We laugh a lot during classes and she makes it very easy and comfortable. I would absolutely 10000% recommend Izabel to anyone wanting to learn Portuguese.

Good questions

Before you say 'oi'.

Do I need to know any Portuguese?

No. Voyager starts from absolute zero, from your very first 'oi'. If you can read this page, you are ready.

Brazilian or European Portuguese?

Brazilian, and the real spoken kind. The Portuguese you will actually use here, on the street and with real people.

Are the classes live or recorded?

Live, with me, in a small group. If you have to miss one, you get the recording so you never fall behind.

I'm too busy, too old, or bad at languages.

You are exactly who this is for. I learned three languages as an adult while moving countries. We go at a human pace and build habits that actually stick.
